The Mariners are understood to have shown an interest in bringing one of their former strikers back to Blundell Park for the 2020/21 signing.

Former youth team striker Rumarn Burrell has been made available for loan by Championship side Middlesbrough. Sources close to the player believe that both the forward and manager Neil Warnock see Blundell Park as the ideal destination for the 19-year-old.

Burrell came through the ranks at Birmingham City, before joining the Mariners, where he excelled in Neil Woods’ youth team.

The teenage front man joined Middlesbrough, in a deal believed to eventually be worth in excess of £100,000, last May and he has caught the eye already on Teeside.

Burrell netted ten times in just 18 appearances for Boro’s under-23 side last term and he is firmly on new manager Warnock’s radar as one for the future.

That’s why the former Sheffield United boss is keen on the striker gaining important experience on loan further down the Football League pyramid.

It’s understood the ‘Boro hierarchy see Blundell Park as an ideal destination for Burrell due to the player’s familiarity with the club and Town manager Ian Holloway’s football philosophy.

One stumbling block with any potential move could be the competition for places up front at Blundell Park. Holloway has already added a trio of strikers to his ranks this summer in the shape of Montel Gibson, Ira Jackson Jr. and Alhagi Touray Sisay.

This is in addition to those already in the Town squad like James Hanson and Matt Green, as well as the reported interest in former Derby man Theo Robinson.
