FC Halifax Town 4
Whitehouse, Bolton, Wroe, Hibbs
Grimsby Town 2
Saturday 20 February 2016 | Vanarama National League | The Shay | 3,131
FC Halifax Town gained a modicum of revenge for the 7-0 hammering the Mariners handed them back in October with this 4-2 win at the Shay.
The hosts raced into a 3-0 half-time lead and even a crazy last four minutes could not send a mammoth away following of over 1,700 back home to North East Lincolnshire happy.
Home debutant Billy Whitehouse opened the scoring in the tenth minute when he stole in at the far post to convert a Josh MacDonald centre.
The Mariners responded well and three minutes later, Josh Gowling was ruing his luck when his effort was cleared off the line by Kevin Roberts, before home stopper Sam Johnson pulled off a brilliant save to deny Padraig Amond.
Instead a second Shaymen goal arrived on 25 minutes. A corner from the right was swung in and met by a bullet header from James Bolton.
Worse was to come three minutes later when Kingsley James ran down the left side and squared for Nicky Wroe to convert from close range.
The second half was a largely quiet affair until an eventful last four minutes. First Amond netted from close range after Johnson spilled a corner from substitute Anthony Straker.
Halifax went straight up the other end and won a free kick that was hammered home by substitute Jake Hibbs, before Jon Nolan added the Mariners second in stoppage time.
