The Mariners turned in one of their best performances of the year as they thumped a demoralised Halifax side 7-0 at Blundell Park.

Padraig Amond helped himself to four goals with Omar Bogle adding a further two and Craig Clay completing the rout.

Bogle started the scoring on ten minutes, tapping home from Andy Monkhouse’s pull back.

Monkhouse being forced off injured after 22 minutes failed to derail Town and Amond netted the second on 35 minutes, converting the rebound after Bogle’s header hit the post.

Bogle claimed the third on 42 minutes, showing great strength and skill to fire in from the edge of the box. And there was time for Amond to add number four before the break, smashing his effort into the top of the net after sub Marcus Marshall’s cross.

There was no let-up after half-time either, Clay on hand to slam home the fifth after neat work by Amond and Bogle.

Irishman Amond claimed his hat-trick after a lovely defence-splitting pass from Richard Tait on 77 minutes.

Scott Brown made a welcome return to the side as a second half substitute and he teed up Amond for his fourth with a delicate pass that the former Accrington man finished with a neat scoop into the goal.
