Goalkeeper Phil Barnes was the hero as the Mariners held their nerve to win a nail biting penalty shootout against county rivals Lincoln City at Sincil Bank.

The Mariners dominated the game and deserved to win in normal time, with Peter Bore, Danny Boshell and Ciaran Toner all being unlucky with their efforts – Boshell coming closest with a shot that hit the post midway through the second half.

Toner, Boshell, Tom Newey, Tony Thorpe and Ricky Ravenhill were all spot-on from 12 yards in the shootout, after Barnes had given the Mariners an early advantage with a fantastic save from Jamie Forrester’s well-struck penalty.
