πŸ‡ Hurst ready to pull ‘rabbit’ out of the hat on transfer deadline day

Sources in the north-west have suggested that Grimsby Town are looking to make a further addition to their defensive ranks on transfer deadline day.

Reports have linked Paul Hurst with a move for former Bolton Wanderers defender Joe Bunney, following his release from Hartlepool United last month.

The Mancunian made his name in non league with Lancaster City, Kendal Town, Stockport County and Northwich Victoria, before moving into the Football League with Rochdale in 2013.

He spent five seasons at Spotland, scoring 16 league goals in 122 games, before moving onto Northampton Town. Loan spells at Blackpool and back at Rochdale followed, and then the left-sided player moved to Bolton Wanderers last term.

Bunney was unable to stop the Trotters slipping into League Two and was released at the end of the season. He spent some time with Matlock, before joining Hartlepool on a short-term deal in November.

The defender is keen on a return to the Football League and it is understood the Mariners have beaten off competition from both Tranmere Rovers and Leyton Orient for the player’s signature.
