Colchester United 3 (Dickenson (2), Guthrie) Grimsby Town 2 (Disley, Bogle)
Tuesday 16 August 2016 | Sky Bet League Two | Weston Homes Community Stadium | 3,287
A ruthless first-half display by Colchester United earned them all three points against the Mariners, despite a spirited second half comeback from Paul Hurst’s men.
Just moments after Luke Prosser’s header had struck the bar, Ben Dickenson reacted quickest at a tenth-minute corner to sweep home.
Former Forest Green man Kurtis Guthrie found space to strike the second on 34 minutes and, five minutes later, Dickenson added his second with a neat finish.
Town responded just three minutes into the second period when Craig Disley nodded home from inside the area and they felt they should have had a penalty for a foul on Omar Bogle soon after.
Bogle pulled another back in injury time but it was too late for the Mariners to grab a point.
