Scouts were at Blundell Park for Saturday’s defeat to Cambridge United, and they were having a close look at a young Grimsby Town midfielder.
Representatives from the Welsh FA were on hand at Blundell Park to cast their eye over midfielder Harry Clifton.
The 20-year-old Mariner is eligible to represent Wales from his grandparents’ background.
Despite the Mariners’ 2-0 defeat to Cambridge, it is believed that Clifton has done enough to impress selectors, particularly with some of his performances before Christmas.
It is expected that the Grimbarian star will be invited to the Welsh under-21 training camp, which is due to take place later this month, as the Welsh FA look to bring some fresh blood into their ranks.
