Grimsby Town 1 FC Halifax Town 0
SHAUN Pearson’s first-half header earned Grimsby Town a 1-0 win over FC Halifax Town, marking a fifth successive league closing the gap on Vanarama Conference leaders Barnet, who slipped to a 3-2 home defeat against Torquay United.
The 35th-minute sending off of striker Lenell John-Lewis swung the match in the hosts’ favour, after the Mariners had dominated the opening exchanges.
And Brett Williams’ second half brace ensured the three points stayed in Hampshire, despite Scott Neilson’s late strike sparking a spirited Mariners’ comeback.
Tonight, Grimsby Town host Gateshead in the Skrill Premier Play Off Semi-Final 1st Leg. The Mariners’ recent record against the men from the North East is a good one and a victory by the margin achieved in the league game at Blundell Park last season will go a long way to securing Paul Hurst’s men a trip back to Wembley.
