Title Race is on after Town Sting the Bees

Screen shot 2015-01-18 at 18.29.47THE VANARAMA Conference title race is well and truly on after Grimsby Town sent long-time leaders Barnet spiralling to a second successive defeat after an excellent 3-1 victory in this televised clash at Blundell Park.

Martin Allen’s side looked to be on their way to another victory after top scorer John Akinde netted a sixth-minute penalty but that lead was overturned within ten minutes thanks to strikes from Ollie Palmer and Lenell John-Lewis’ own spot kick.

Despite a spirited start to the second half, it was the Mariners who took full control of the game on 52 minutes when Jack Mackreth slid home to cap off a fine team move. Continue reading

League Two Team of the Year

Last season’s League Two ended up being dominated by Paulo Di Canio’s Swindon Town with some other surprising names making up the chasing pack, whilst traditional big hitters like Bradford and Rotherham struggled to make an impact.

The transfer of Nick Powell to Manchester United and Jack Butland’s call-up for England’s Euro 2012 squad shows there is plenty of talent in the Football League’s basement division and 2012/13 is shaping up to be a very competitive season.

The team of the season is a 4-4-2 formation and again comprises just one player per club.
