According to reports in today’s Daily Mail and The Athletic (paywall), two Premier League giants are carefully monitoring the progress of a young Mariners’ duo.
The inclusion of 15-year-olds Louis Boyd and Ben Grist in the Grimsby Town squad for last month’s EFL Trophy tie against Harrogate Town has triggered both Liverpool and Chelsea into tracking the players more closely.
This news comes on the back of our exclusive last week that Leeds United have been following Grist for some time.
It is understood that both the Reds and Blues are well aware of the Mariners’ financial plight due to the Coronavirus outbreak and believe that they can do a cut-price deal for both players.
Boyd of course became the Mariners’ youngest ever player and goalscorer in that game against Harrogate, whilst Grist was named on the bench.
